Nocturne Halifax Festival 2026 | Event Information & Guide
Prepare for a weekend of light, movement and creativity. Nocturne brings art into Halifax’s streets, galleries and public spaces, inviting you to see familiar places a little differently after dark. The free festival returns October 15–18, 2026, with its main Art at Night showcase on Saturday, October 17.

Nocturne Halifax Festival 2026: General Information
Founded in 2008, Nocturne is a free, independent contemporary art festival run by a Halifax-based nonprofit. Its annual programme brings local, national and international artists into public spaces and participating venues. This year’s theme, Embodied City, is curated by Annalise Prodor and explores how we experience the city through our bodies and senses.
Event Dates
- Festival: Thursday, October 15–Sunday, October 18, 2026.
- Main Art at Night showcase: Saturday, October 17, 6 p.m.–midnight.
Individual projects and leadup events have their own dates and times. Use the official 2026 programme to choose the displays, performances and activities you most want to see. Locations
The festival spans downtown Halifax, the waterfront, Spring Garden and university areas, the North End and Quinpool, downtown Dartmouth and other HRM locations. Galleries sit alongside outdoor installations; use the festival map to group nearby stops into an enjoyable route.
The Nocturne Hub at the Pop Can, presented by Build Nova Scotia, is on the waterfront between the Salt Yard and Foundation Wharf. Stop for festival guides, maps and help from staff and volunteers. If you are crossing to Dartmouth, plan around current ferry or bus schedules.
Ticket Prices
Nocturne is free to attend. Donations help support the festival and its community programming. Wear comfortable shoes and warm layers for an October evening, and bring water for your route. The event runs rain or shine.

Anchor Projects
Selected by the curator, Anchor Projects establish the festival’s theme and give visitors a starting point for exploring its larger artistic ideas. The 2026 selections include:

Beacon Projects
Beacon Projects bring additional artist-led work into the festival. This year’s highlights include Harbour Horizons by VibraFusionLab and Take Days by Eleanor King. Find their locations and experience details in the programme before heading out.
Spotlight Projects
Spotlight Projects add another layer to the evening’s art and performances. Look for Visible Cities by Ada Denil and Butcher’s Block by Breaking Circus Collective among the 2026 selections.
Leave room for the community galleries, too. Art Gallery of Nova Scotia offers exhibitions and family-friendly studio activities, while Argyle Fine Art on Barrington Street presents Off the Shelf by Liz Bateman, inspired by Nova Scotia’s marine life.
Leadup Events
Nocturne’s programming extends beyond the main Saturday night with talks, workshops and community activities. The 2026 launch party takes place Friday, October 2, from 7–10 p.m. at Propeller Brewing’s Gottingen Tap Room, 2015 Gottingen Street. Breaking Circus Collective performs at this free event, with no RSVP required.
