TD Halifax Jazz Festival 2024: General Information

Started in 1987, the TD Halifax Jazz Festival is the oldest jazz festival in Atlantic Canada and has grown into one of the biggest and most anticipated summer events in Halifax, attracting more than 65,000 visitors, 400 volunteers, and over 350 local musicians each year.

This year marks the 38th annual celebration of the event and is poised to be bigger and better than ever, with an exciting lineup of musical performances, free concerts, and complementing attractions and activities.

Event Dates

The Halifax Jazz Festival is a six-day event traditionally held every July. This year, the 38th annual TD Halifax Jazz Festival will run from July 9 to 14, 2024.

Participating venues can be found all over the downtown arena. However, the Halifax Jazz Festival has four official concert venues.

  • TD Main Stage – Salter Lot, Halifax Waterfront:5057 Salter St.
  • St. Matthew’s United Church (All Ages) – 1479 Barrington St.
  • The Carelton (19+) – 1685 Argyle St.
  • The Seahorse / The Local (19+) – 2037 Gottingen St.

Ticket Prices

Tickets to the festival’s official concert stages can be purchased through their TIXR portal. Single show tickets are available for each of the festival’s headlining performers. However, the best way to experience the event is with a festival pass, which includes access to all shows throughout the six-day event. Standard Passes start at $215 per ticket.

Age Requirements

Each of the Halifax Jazz Festival’s participating venues features its own age requirements. The Carleton and the Seas horse / The Local have a strict adult-only (19+) policy, while the St. Matthew’s United Church stage welcomes visitors of all ages.

The festival at the TD Main Stage also welcomes guests of all ages. However, those under the age of 19 are required to fill out an underage application form and must be accompanied by a supervising parent or guardian.

Along with its headlining events on its main stages, the TD Halifax Jazz Festival features free musical concerts for all ages at various community stages throughout the city. Lineups for these venues are announced closer to the event.

Jazz Labs

The Halifax Jazz Festival holds their popular Jazz Labs throughout the year as part of their Music Education Program. Offering behind-the-scenes insight into the jazz music industry, these free events welcome guests of all ages and include artist talks, master classes, and interactive concerts.
