Self Check-In

Cameo Suites is a staff-less, automated, self-service facility, offering contactless convenience throughout your stay.

ONLINE CHECK-IN

Checkin time is 4pm, and checkout time is 11am. Please note that we do not offer early checkins or late checkouts due to the automated nature of the property. The lobby door code will not activate prior to the official check-in time of 4pm.

Guests who arrive early or have a late departure can use the self-service luggage room located in the lobby. The luggage room code will allow early arrivals and late departures to store their luggage from 7am of the guest's arrival date to 7pm of the guest's checkout date.

All guests are highly encouraged to check-in online at least 24 hours before arrival. An email with instructions for online check-in will be sent two or three days before arrival with a link to the online check-in page (checkin.cameosuites.ca).

Checking in online is a simple process of entering your confirmation number, completing your payment and security deposit (credit card required), and uploading a picture of your photo ID.

Once you've completed your online check-in successfully, you will receive your suite number, door access codes and other pertinent check-in information by email. With this information, you can access your accommodations at any time after your official check-in time.

If you arrive at Cameo Suites outside business hours, and without having completed your online check-in, you can complete your check-in using one of the kiosk screens in the lobby. You will need to have your confirmation number, a credit card and a piece of photo ID on hand to use the self check-in kiosk.

Guests who are not comfortable with online check-in and payment systems, and who require in-person assistance for check-in, are highly encouraged to seek a traditional full-service hotel with a staffed front desk. Cameo Suites is an automated, staffless, self-service hotel. Our unique service model allows us to provide very attractive rates in the most expensive area of downtown Halifax. This model does not enable us to provide routine in-person assistance with the check-in process.

Online Check-In FAQs

This indicates that the card payment did not go through. Please use an authorized credit card (not a debit card), check your balance, or contact your bank to ensure that the payment isn't being blocked. Sometimes a "Card Declined" message is not displayed if the browser you are using blocks pop-up notifications.

This is a browser permissions issue. Please change the permission settings on your browser or device, or try a different browser or device. You can also checkin using the tablet kiosks in the hotel lobby.

If you completed your online check-in and entered your email and phone number, you should receive an email and a text message containing your door access codes right away. If you don't receive these within a couple of minutes please check the following:

  1. That your phone is connected to the internet.
  2. That airplane mode is turned off.
  3. That the message is not in your junk folder.
  4. That there were no typos in the email address or phone number.
  5. That your business email server is not blocking the message as spam.

If you suspect there was a typo in the information you provided or that the email address you used may be blocking messages, you can access the check-in system again and click "Retransmit Code". Enter your email again (or a different email address) and send the door code to yourself again.

Cameo Suites is Nova Scotia's first fully automated hotel property. Our staffless model allows us to provide the lowest rates in the most expensive area of the city. This service model relies on technology and online self-checkin for a smooth arrival experience and a pleasant stay. Therefore, guests must be able to use the online checkin system and have all necessary items on hand such as the hotel confirmation number, a valid major credit card, and a piece of photo ID.

Please make sure you have the "Hotel Confirmation Number" before attempting your online check-in. If you made a booking through AirBnB, Booking.com (or one of its affiliates), or our direct website, then you can use either the Cameo's hotel confirmation number or the 3rd party confirmation number and it will work, as those websites correctly transmit their own internal booking reference numbers to our hotel system.

The hotel confirmation number may not be automatically included in certain third-party website confirmation emails, such as Expedia (or its affiliates), Hotels.com, VRBO, or various travel rewards programs (Avion, TD Rewards, etc.). These websites often send guests an "itinerary number", which is their own internal reference number that they do not transmit to the hotel's system. This itinerary number will not work for online check-in.

Some services (like VRBO), may provide the hotel confirmation number followed by letters added by their own system (e.g. 1234567891234mod). If you see this, remove the letters "mod" and enter the number digits only during online check-in and you should be able to retrieve your booking details and complete your check-in.

Guests who can't locate the hotel confirmation number through one of the above websites must contact a live agent at the website they used for their booking to obtain the correct confirmation number. The correct hotel confirmation number may also be found by logging in to the third party's app or website and opening the reservation details page. Please note that you must contact the third party website for your confirmation number, not Cameo Suites. Our hotel is a staffless self-service property. We are unable to search and provide confirmation numbers over the phone, or contact third party websites on a guest's behalf to obtain the guest's booking information.

For guests who are struggling to locate a number for a live agent at the third party website, we recommend using Google to search for the number rather than the third party website itself. Many large sites like Hotels.com hide their customer service numbers and force their customers to use their automated AI chat bots. These chat bots do not provide the correct confirmation number (according to previous guest reports). A website such as GetHuman.com has been used successfully by previous guests in locating customer service numbers for third party booking websites.

If you made your booking directly through our website, please check your junk mail folder. If the booking confirmation and other emails are missing, then this may be due to a typo in the email address you entered during the reservation. Please send an email to the hotel's contact address and we will update your address and resend the confirmation email.

If you made your booking through a third party website such as VRBO, or through a rewards program such as Avion, then please note that these websites are affiliates of Expedia and use Expedia to create reservations at Cameo Suites.

Many such websites and reward programs don't have messaging integration with Expedia. They transmit the booking information (without the guest's direct email address) to the hotel, but they don't transmit the hotel's messages back to the guest. All our messages to Expedia affiliated websites are managed and automatically sent to guests from the Expedia system.

Check-in information and other helpful answers can be found by visiting our website FAQ or Check-in pages. Guests can also call our general help line and choose one of the menu options for help with a variety of issues. Check-in instructions are also posted in the hotel lobby above the check-in kiosks.

USING YOUR DOOR ACCESS CODES

There are two types of electronic locks: the main lobby doors and the suite doors.

For the entrance door and luggage room door in the lobby:

1. Enter your lobby code followed by the checkmark key (Example: 1-2-3-4-✔️).

2. When you hear the buzz/chime, press the handle, and open the door.

For your suite door:

1. Enter your code only, (Example: 1-2-3-4).

2. When you hear the chime, press the handle, and open the door.

DOOR CODE TIPS AND SELF-HELP

The lobby door keypad light will flash if the code was not entered correctly, or if a guest is attempting to access the room prior to the official check-in time of 4pm.

If you did everything correctly and your lobby door code did not work after 4pm, this may indicate a code transmission error. See the self-help tip below to solve this issue.

If a door lock has a blank surface with no numbers, this is a digital touch keypad with no physical buttons. Please touch the screen surface anywhere to wake up the lock, and the numbers will light up for you to enter the door code.

Before troubleshooting this issue, please check the following:

  1. Please make sure you're entering the lobby code and not the suite code.
  2. Make sure you press the checkmark key after you enter the code.
  3. Make sure you're trying the code during the correct activation time.

The lobby code will activate at 4pm of your checkin date. The luggage code will activate at 7am of your checkin date and deactivate at 7pm of your checkout date.

If the above checklist does not solve the issue, the code may not have transmitted correctly to the door lock. This can happen from time to time due to local or global network interruptions.

Re-transmitting the code is a simple fix that consists of the following three steps:

  1. Access the checkin page again, either on your device or through the lobby checkin kiosks.
  2. Click "Retransmit Code" on the page that lists your completed check-in steps.
  3. Once you receive the code email/text again, wait 3 to 4 minutes then try the lock again.

The retransmitted code will be the same code you originally received. Code retransmission should take less than 5 minutes from start to finish.

Please try this solution first before sending a message for help to the SMS helpline that is posted on the lobby door. This self-help solution is quicker than going through the SMS helpline assistance process, which will also start by asking you to retransmit the code first.

BATHROOMS

You will find toilet paper in the bathroom vanity under the sink, and a hair dryer hanging on the wall near the sink. All bathrooms are equipped with dispensers for hand soap, shampoo and body wash. A non-slip mat and a squeegee for the shower floor/glass is also provided under the sink.

KITCHENS

Kitchens are fully equipped with dishes, cups and glasses, cutlery, and cookware. All kitchens contain a microwave, an electrical kettle, a Keurig coffee machine, toaster, fridge and a full stove/oven.

Please don't leave any food items in the fridge or storage cupboards when you check-out. Place all unwanted food items in the appropriate trash bin (garbage, recycling or compost).

LINEN AND HOUSEKEEPING

Common areas of the building (such as elevator and hallways) are cleaned daily. If you discover a housekeeping/cleaning or pest control issue that you wish to report, please call one of the contact numbers below.

Your suite will be clean with fresh sheets and towels provided prior to your arrival. Housekeeping will clean the room once per week thereafter. If you wish to access any cleaning supplies prior to the scheduled weekly cleaning, you can check under the kitchen sink or find a cleaning staff member during daily housekeeping hours (9am to 4pm).

You can deposit your old linen and towels in the laundry hampers provided in each bedroom and collect fresh flat sheets, fitted sheets, pillowcases, or towels at any time. To obtain clean sheets, please locate the extra linen provided in each bedroom closet in your suite. Extra towels can be obtained from the shelves behind the doors in the guest laundry rooms on floors 3 and 5. If you're unable to locate replacement sheets in your suite, please request a set from any member of the cleaning staff during business hours.

ADDITIONAL CONTACT

If you have any issues with your check-in or have general questions before/during your stay, you can contact our general help line by calling (902) 709-0222.
